There is a lot of talk about the phenomenon of alkaline water right now. Historically this water, which is simply water with an abundance of hydrogen in it, has been referred to as “miracle water” because of its claimed curative powers to heal a number of physical maladies.

Perhaps you’ve heard about these so called miracle waters or have read about them. They are natural sources of water all over the world such as France, Germany, Mexico and the like. People have for years traveled all over just to sip, dip, ingest and even bath in these waters. Afterward, they have noticed dramatic changes to health issues they were facing before coming into contact with the water. America has its share of locations that lay claim to having healing waters as well.

Several decades ago, these miracle water places were investigated and researched by Japanese and Russian scientists who discovered these “miracle waters” all had one thing in common, an abundance of active hydrogen. began an intense study and application of the waters to prove or disprove whether

They began an intense study and application of the waters to prove or disprove whether there are any positive effects upon and within the human body once applied or ingested. What they found out was astonishing. They did, in fact, find that the water made a significant difference to many of the people who ingested the water on a consistent basis. They also determined that the water had a high pH or alkaline level.

Ultimately, these scientists were able to duplicate this water in laboratories and through a process called ionization developed what the world now knows as alkaline water. The Japanese have used this water in hospitals and distributed it throughout the households of their country. The effect was groundbreaking and the health of the people increased significantly and those who suffered from chronic illnesses often experienced substantial relief or a cure after using the water. These findings and conclusions sparked an industry in Japan of manufacturing water ionizing machines that turned ordinary tap water or spring water into alkaline water that had the same qualities and effect as claimed when persons  the “miracle waters.”

The Japanese ministry of medicine determined this water to be of medical grade quality and ultimately obtained authority to classify the machine that produces the water as a “medical device.” These ionizing machines began a phenomenon of manufacturing water filtering systems that produced the same water as found in the healing waters around the world.

Over the past several decades alkaline water has become quite common and is useful for a number of practical applications including drinking, cooking, cleaning, and hydration therapy among others.

Alkaline water has not, however, been largely accepted by the medical establishment in America yet when it comes to some of the claims being made such as its health benefits, beauty aid use and a preferred alternative drinking water instead of tap water or bottled water.

Nevertheless, it has carved out huge markets in the U.S. and across the world now as a liquid that is changing the way people are drinking water and in the understanding of how important water is to the health of the human body.

Several myths about this water have developed as its growth and popularity continues to rise. Unfortunately, these myths persist and are, to a large extent, false.  Five of the myths are covered below:

1. MYTH: Alkaline water is no better than tap water to drink:

Tap water comes from a city or county municipal water system where it is treated with chemicals to ensure that it meets the minimum standard of safety for consumption by human beings. The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) regulates the permissible levels of harmful chemicals that can be allowed to exist in tap water in order for it to be consumed safely.

Unfortunately, these regulations have been determined to have failed over several years and the results are that people have been exposed to harmful tap water and are now suffering from physical conditions directly related to consuming tap water.  Recent stories about the unfitness of tap water in our nation’s drinking water system are alarming.  A recent New York Times article shows the gaps in regulation that lead to harmful amounts of lead in tap water across the country.

A horrifying story about tap water and how it has adversely affected the health of hundreds of thousands of people in Flint Michigan is a painful reminder about the state of tap water in America. A CNBC report shows that America’s water crisis goes beyond Flint Michigan.

As if the above wasn’t enough, what most people don’t know is, even though there is a regulated requirement by the EPA to keep tap water safe, once it leaves the municipal site it still has to travel through miles of old and outdated lead pipes that still take the water to household tap water faucets. These pipes are very old and lead leaches from the pipes and into the water as it travels through them and is delivered to your kitchen faucet. You can’t see it but its there and ingested when consumed by drinking or cooking. What’s worse, the EPA fails to even attempt to correct these problems according to reliable reports

REALITY: Alkaline water is filtered and many impurities are removed before drinking and has several beneficial uses over tap water:

Alkaline water is processed through an ionization process by a simple hook up of a ionized water machine system that is connected to a tap water faucet. It can remove lead, chlorine, arsenic and other harmful chemicals that normally flow through a tap water system. In addition, through the ionization process the water is turned from regular tap water to alkaline water. This water has several properties.

  • Because of its high level of hydrogen (alkalinity) it acts as an anti-oxidant which helps with anti-aging of cells within the body, a good thing when it comes to slowing down the aging process.

  • Alkaline water has a micro-clustering affect upon the water once it is processed through the ionizer machine. It reduces the size of the molecules of water and makes them tiny. This allows for the immediate absorption of the water through the human body cells when consumed and boosts immediate hydration of the body. Tap water, on the other hand, is large molecule water which means it has to sit in the stomach for a time before absorbed into the body cells. This accounts for the reason your body feels fully or bloated when large glasses of tap water are consumed. This does not happen with the same amount of alkaline water consumption. The mechanism of how this occurs in explain in an article by a prominent physician and scientist on the subject of ionized water.

  • Alkaline water is more effective at cleaning pesticides from fruits and vegetables than tap water. There are some dangerous pesticides hanging on to fruits and vegetables that are consumed and the unsuspecting public doesn’t know about them. See a demonstration of how effective alkaline water is in removing pesticides from fruits and vegetables below:

2. MYTH: Alkaline Water Has No Medical Benefit!

The naysayers, many medical and otherwise, say alkaline water really has no benefit when it comes to maintaining or restoring health and that tap water is just as good. If you read Myth number 1 you already know this isn’t true. Tap water is rife with problems that could have adverse effects within the human body.

REALTY: No curative claims are intended in this article, but it is now concluded by medical experts and scientists that alkaline water can cure or reduce pain and discomfort of acid reflux:

  • PubMed reports indicate alkaline water with pH of 8.8 or higher cures or relieves acid reflux or heartburn.

3. MYTH: Alkaline water is no better than bottled water:

Bottled water is now the number one drink in America surpassing soda, which for many years was ahead of water for consumption.

Most people drink bottled water because they think it is better for them than tap water. However, that is not the case.

REALITY: Bottled water is generally tap water but hyped as if it’s not.

  • Two of the largest bottle water companies Dasani (Coca Cola) and Aquafina (Pepsi Cola) have been forced to fess up and admit that their bottle water comes from the same tap water sources as regular tap water that flows through a kitchen faucet.

  • Bottled water often contain contaminants that are harmful.
  • Dasani and Aquafina bottled water is acidic and below the normal regulated level of alkalinity required in tap water which is at least 7.
  •  Bottle water leaches chemicals from the plastic container over time which exposes the body to more chemical ingestion.

  •  Bottled water is an environment nightmare. Most of the plastic bottles are not recycled and are just trashed where they contaminate and pollutant. It takes years to degrade the plastic. Plastic bottles and other plastics have created what is known as the “Plastic Ocean.”

Alkaline water, produced from an ionized water system, produces clean, healthy water and avoids adding any disadvantages to the environment.

4. MYTH: Drinking Alkaline water is expensive.

REALITY: Alkaline water is much less expensive that bottled water.

Bottled water costs 2000 times more than tap water.

The expense of purchasing an alkaline water machine is insignificant when the truth about the expense of drinking bottled water is revealed.

5. MYTH: Alkaline water is a scam:

REALITY: There are thousands of articles and blogs over the internet extolling claims that alkaline water is all hype. Nothing could be further from the truth. Any claims that alkaline water is a scam have already been proven wrong in the preceding information.

Here’s the reality. There are those who market and hawk sales of alkaline water in ways it should not be. This is the cause of the claims “Alkaline water is a scam.” Medical claims and other unsupported theories are made by those who are unscrupulous and want to sell their alkaline water products.

They make unsubstantiated and inappropriate claims that alkaline water is a cure-all for many illnesses and sicknesses, which frankly are not true. There are numerous testimonials of persons who give alkaline water credit for healing their sicknesses after having tried medication and other traditional treatments. Certainly, these personal testimonies should not be discounted. These are personal experiences attributed to real life examples after application of traditional medicine has failed to provide relief. For centuries and well before modern medicine as its known and practiced today, soluble water with alkaline qualities was known to provide relief to the infirmed. As the bible saying goes “there is nothing new under the sun.” Alkaline water is centuries old and here to stay.

As outlined in this article, medical authorities and experts are coming to grips with the power and practicality of alkaline water and its uses and are beginning to accept and report the fact, based on scientific evidence, that alkaline water is a viable substance that can be helpful in sustaining a healthy and long lasting life.
